Others served for many years, retired andpursued second careers of varied types. Tragically, many havedied... in combat, accidents, and from health problems. Probablyour most notable classmate, Edward W. White, who became anastronaut, died in a capsule fire. Many of our Iranian classmateswere assassinated in the coup of 1979./font>/p>p alignleft>font faceComic Sans MS color#0000FF>Thebond formed during the pilot training remains a strong one. Acasual meeting between Jake Watson and Donald Condra in 1990resulted in a sentimental journey back across the years to1952-53 that generated desire to gather the class together onceagain. Their initial thoughts were to have a reunion of theirtraining bases - Greenville AB, Hondo AB, and Webb AFB. But theidea caught on and they were encouraged to include all 20 basesand all classmates that could be located. So the search began for53-Foxers. The first class reunion was held at Panama City Beachin October 1995 in spite of major adversity presented byhurricane Opal. Tragically, Jake Watson passed on duringpreparations for the reunion in 1998. His dedication to thereunion efforts never wavered and he continued working even onhis final trip to the hospital. He was posthumously selected aspermanent Wing Commander in 1998.br>br>Unfortunately, the whole class reunion has not met theexpectations of many Greenville, Hondo and Webb classmates. As aresult, and in view of polling, it has been decided to continuewith Jake and Dons original ideas and efforts and hold periodicreunions u>in addition to the whole class reunions/u>. Sincesome in the whole class setup objected to information presentedon the original Fox web, it has been removed and this sitereplaces it.
