We are here to help.\n**Reciprocity Policy**: Reviewing articles takes researchers away from their own research, teaching, and administrative duties, representing selfless commitment to both research and the journals for which they review. JBAM thus adopted a Reciprocity Policy that requires all authors who submit articles for review to commit to review a manuscript submitted by another author. In this way, each author pays forward the time and effort reviewers spend reviewing.\n#Journal Scope\nJBAM publishes empirical manuscripts, theoretical manuscripts, and cases to help researchers and practitioners understand and interpret phenomena in management. Manuscripts submitted to JBAM should clearly identify what phenomenon is under study, and what theoretical and practical implications that findings have to both future research and current practitioners. We recommend that the author peruse past articles published in JBAM to see what types of manuscripts that the journal publishes. Otherwise, any manuscript that fills an important gap in management literature or contributes to the conversation on a pertinent managerial topic is welcome.\n#Scientific Rigor\nManuscripts submitted to JBAM should use standard practices found in extant literature regarding methodologies, reporting of statistics, and using sound instruments during measurement of constructs and other variables. The author should report effect sizes, p-values, confidence intervals, intercorrelations among variables, and internal reliability coefficients (e.g., Cronbach’s coefficient alpha) as is standard practice in the field, especially for the purpose of allowing meta-analyses in future research. A study’s design should be stated clearly to avoid ambiguities and allow replication, and figures that depict models being tested should be included in the manuscript.\n#Publication Procedure\nJBAM uses a double-anonymous review process to select manuscripts for publication. The following procedure is used to select manuscripts for publication, outlining the author’s responsibilities during the process.\n1.\tThe author submits a manuscript and separate title page using the Scholastica website.\n2.\tJBAM’s editor completes an initial review of the manuscript and makes 1 of 3 decisions. A manuscript that is DESK REJECTED will not go out for review. Such rejections are usually due to a manuscript’s topic lying too far from the journal’s scope, or because the manuscript’s scientific rigor is lower than that required by the journal. A DESK EDIT decision means that a manuscript’s format, or some other aspect of the manuscript, is not ready for submission. The manuscript has not been rejected, but it must be revised before resubmission. SENT OUT FOR REVIEW means that the manuscript has been sent to reviewers for evaluation.\n3.\tAt least 2 reviewers are asked to review the manuscript. When the reviews are returned, the editor summarizes them and informs the author of the revisions, if any, that the author must make before resubmission.\n4.\tThe author revises the manuscript according to the editor’s requirements. A Response to Reviewers document should accompany the resubmission, outlining the revisions made to the manuscript. The author should respond individually to each revision that the editor required. When ready, the author should upload both the revised manuscript and Response to Reviewers document through Scholastica.\n5.\tThe editor makes a final decision to either ACCEPT or REJECT the manuscript for publication. In some cases, the editor asks the original reviewers to review a manuscript a second time. The author might then be invited to revise the manuscript again. Rarely will a manuscript go through a third round of reviews.\n#Preparing a Manuscript for Submission\n**Style**: JBAM uses the formatting standards of the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition(https://apastyle.apa.org/). APA is more than a citation and referencing standard; it guides preparation of an entire manuscript for submission, including formatting of citations, references, tables, figures, quotations, appendices, and much more. Using APA’s submission standards streamlines the editorial, review, and typesetting processes, making it much easier and timely for a manuscript to move from submission to publication. Adhering to APA also allows reviewers to spend more time assessing a manuscript’s content and less time pointing out formatting issues.\n**Exposition**: A manuscript’s exposition (i.e., grammar, structure of arguments, ordering of content, etc.) should be appropriate for submission to an English-language, scholarly journal.\n**Files**: Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format (i.e., docx or doc), with a page size of 8.5x11, 1-inch margins, double spaced, and 12-point Times New Roman font.\n**Cover Letter**: A Cover Letter should accompany the submission and include:\n1) The manuscript title.\n2) Assurances that all authors agree with the content of the manuscript and with the order of authorship (for more information, see Sections 1.21–1.22 of the APA Publication Manual).\n3) Assurances that the corresponding author will take responsibility for informing coauthors of editorial decisions, reviews received, and any changes or revisions made.\n4) Information about the existence of any closely related manuscripts that have been submitted for simultaneous consideration to the same or to another journal.\n5) Notice of any conflicts of interest or activities that might be seen as influencing the research (for more information, see Section 1.20 of the APA Publication Manual).\n6) A request for masked review, if that is an option for the journal and desired (for more information, see Section 12.7 of the APA Publication Manual).\n7) Verification that the treatment of human participants or nonhuman animal subjects was in accordance with established ethical standards (for more information, see Sections 1.18 and 12.13 of the APA Publication Manual).\n8) A copy of any permissions to reproduce copyrighted material or a notice that permissions are pending.\n\nSee the APA Style website(https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/research-publication/sample-cover-letter-manuscript.pdf) for a sample cover letter.\n**Title Page**: The title page should be formatted according to APA 7th Edition and submitted as a separate document to accommodate the double-anonymous review process. See the APA Style webpage(https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/paper-format/title-page) for an example.\n**Length**: Manuscripts should be between 20 to 30 double-spaced pages (i.e., about 6,000 to 9,000 words), though shorter or longer manuscripts will be considered on a case-by-case basis.\n**Headings**: Headings should be informative of the content beneath them and formatted according to APA. Keep the levels of headings to 3.\n**Abstract**: Abstracts should be about 100 to 200 words.\n**Tables and Figures**: Tables and Figures should appear at the end of the manuscript, each on its own page, and should be mentioned in the text of the manuscript (e.g., “Table 1 reports results…”). Do not position tables and figures within the text of the document. Tables should be editable (i.e., not images such as a jpg) and figures should be of sufficient quality for printing (e.g., 300 dpi or higher). Titles and notes should be positioned outside of tables and figures as editable text. Very large tables (i.e., those that span more than one page, either in portrait or landscape orientation) should be included in an appendix. An excessive number of tables and figures will not be published, so ensure that they are necessary to the manuscript’s message or findings, and that they do not repeat information that already appears in the text of the manuscript.\n**Citations and References**: Every citation that appears in the text should have a corresponding reference in the references section, and likewise, all references should have a corresponding citation in the text.\n**Footnotes and Endnotes**: JBAM does not publish manuscripts that contain either footnotes or endnotes. As a guide, consider that if information contained in a footnote or endnote was not important enough to be included in the manuscript’s main body of text, leave it out of the manuscript altogether.\n**Good Faith**: Manuscripts must be submitted in good faith, representing a serious request and intent for publication. Papers under preparation, incomplete papers, or papers that deviate significantly from APA 7th Edition standards will not be considered for publication.\n**Resubmitting After Review**: A Response to Reviewers’ document should accompany all resubmissions. It should include a point-by-point explanation, with page numbers, explaining how the author(s) addressed each comment or suggestion. Unlike research articles or book reviews, editorials are explicitly argumentative; they advance a position, highlight a debate, or call attention to emerging trends. They represent the journal’s public voice, and thus both the topic and proposed content must be approved by the editor before an editorial is written and submitted.\n\n**Advice on Writing an Editorial**\n* Editorials should be 2,000 to 4,000 words, though longer editorials might be approved if warranted.\n* State your thesis clearly and avoid tangential information.\n* Provide clear reasons that support your thesis.\n* Strengthen points with supporting evidence and cite when necessary.\n* An editorial is not a research study; don’t bury the reader in citations and evidence. They provide critical commentary on scholarly works, serving as vital tools for researchers, students, and practitioners. \n\n**Purpose of an Academic Book Review**\n* Raise awareness of new academic publications that often lack wide marketing exposure.\n* Alert readers to a book’s existence and relevance.\n* Offer insights into a book’s argument, methodology, and scholarly contribution, helping others decide whether to use it pedagogically or practically. \n* Stimulate further research and academic dialogue.\n\n**Preparing to Write a Book Review**\n* Choose books by reputable authors and academic publishers.\n* Begin by understanding how the book fits within the broader scholarly conversation. \n* Don’t read the book linearly. The goal is to maintain the integrity, originality, and accountability of scholarly work.\n**Prohibition of Generative AI Use**: Authors are prohibited from using generative AI tools, such as large language models or similar technologies, to create, draft, edit, or refine the content of their manuscripts. This includes but is not limited to 1) writing the main text, abstract, or conclusion, 2) generating figures, tables, and other supplemental material, 3) producing literature reviews or summaries, and 4) drafting responses to peer reviewers.\nManuscripts submitted to JBAM must be the original work of the authors. Authors must take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and ethical integrity of their submissions. During submissions, authors declare that no generative AI tools were used during preparation of the manuscript, and that all content, including text, figures, and tables, was created solely by the authors or appropriately cited sources.\n**Consequences of Non-Compliance**: If use of generative AI tools is discovered at any stage of the review or publication process, the journal reserves the right to 1) reject the manuscript or 2) retract the article if it has already been published.\n**Exceptions and Clarifications**: Authors may use AI tools for non-creative tasks, such as grammar and spell-checking, formatting references and citations, and managing data or conducting computational analyses, with appropriate disclosure. Any use of AI for these or other purposes must be explicitly disclosed in the manuscript on the title page under the Author Note.\n**Policy Review and Updates**: This policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure alignment with evolving academic standards and technological advancements. By submitting a manuscript to JBAM, authors agree to adhere to this policy.\n\n#Legal Permission and Responsibilities\nJBAM publishes only original research that has not been published elsewhere and is not being considered for publication at another journal. It is the author’s responsibility to obtain legal permission from the original publishers for material that is to be published along with the author’s own material. An example is the reproduction of a figure or image that is the property of another publisher.\nAn author submitting an article or case for publication in JBAM warrants that the work is not an infringement on any existing copyright, and the author indemnifies the publisher against any breach of such warranty. Upon acceptance for publication, the author must convey copyright ownership to JBAM by signing a transfer of copyright letter.
